Mike May, general manager of two independent NAPA AUTO PARTS stores in northeast Pennsylvania, was honored for his hard work and loyalty to the NAPA brand this weekend at Pocono Raceway by being named the Honorary Pit Crew Member on the No. 24 NAPA AUTO PARTS team. May, who services two counties in his trading area through Bracey Auto Parts & NAPA, was chosen to have his name on the rear quarter panel of rookie of the year contender Chase Elliott’s No. 24 NAPA Chevrolet this weekend among other unique opportunities with the Hendrick Motorsports team. Coincidentally, in a past career as an operations manager at a local distributor, May actually assisted on a handful of promotions for Chase’s father Bill Elliott as the elder Elliott was competing for Coors at the time.
Sunday, May was able to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience with Chase Elliott and the NAPA Racing team - coming full circle from his time spent with Bill several years ago. May, a longtime NASCAR and Elliott-family fan, began his day with a behind-the-scenes tour of the NAPA hauler before heading over to the younger Elliott’s coach for a private meet and greet where May spent quality one-on-one time with Elliott. The two chatted about the upcoming race and Elliott’s season thus far while also taking time to pose for a photograph together. Unfortunately, rain postponed the 400-mile race until Monday afternoon where Elliott raced his way to a fourth-place finish.
